Raised within the confines of Fundamentalism, Lauren J. Barnhart is instructed that her body is inherently evil and unclean; that innocence is of the highest value; and that a woman is meant to be a servant to everyone but herself. She struggles to believe all that she is told or else disappoint family, friends, and an all-knowing God. At age twenty-one, outside of her small conservative college, Lauren expresses her sexuality and is surprised to discover a lack of guilt for her transgressions. Within nature rather than against it, awakened to all five senses, she begins to record the feelings of intense love and empathy that she failed to find within the church. In the search for something more, she is drawn towards a group of polyamorists, who celebrate the body and the freedom to express themselves with many. Through their zest for life, she abundantly taps into her artistic nature. But at the same time, she experiences the same misuse of power that was left behind in the pews. Realizing that the need to find a leader is a fallacy, Lauren learns to value her own true voice, and finds the strength to forge a different path.
No End Of The Bed Lauren J Barnhart 9780615776958 Books
This book is not a romance, or a comedy. Although it contains some romantic and humorous aspects, it is much more a drama -- one of coming of age and self-discovery.To readers not raised in a fundamentalist religious, sexually suppressive background, this book will probably not make much sense. But for those of us who can relate to the heroine's feelings and experiences, it is a very cathartic and insight-inducing read.
This book was not fun. It was not happy. It was not an easy read. But am I glad I took the time to read it all the way through? Heck, yes!
Sometimes the mark of a truly great novel is not its entertainment value, but the way the ideas, scenes and characters continue to haunt the reader for days and weeks after the book is finished, not in a negative way, but in a thought-provoking journey of increasing appreciation for the book's depth of understanding and stark honesty.
This was one of those books.

No End Of The Bed Lauren J Barnhart 9780615776958 Books Reviews
It's refreshing to read a intelligently written book. It's a coming of age story that is hard to put down. I highly recommend it.
I did not even finish reading this mess. I was finished after about 5 pages. Totally stupid, disgusting vocabulary and anything but decent reading . And I am not a "prude".
Goes off the rails and seems to wander around without actually moving the story forward very much. My problem with reading something like this is a lack of patience for lots of narrative or meaningless action. Couldn't finish the book. I did enjoy the "voice".
As a woman who grew up in a church and also Christian school setting it's refreshing to hear about someone who has been through some of the same "rebellion" & soul searching I have.Lauren sucks you into her world and doesn't apologize for the way things were in he life. It's raw it's very truthful and open. Definitely would recommend it to any woman but especially if you have lived through a religious background and have found yourself searching.
Sorry, but I kept waiting for someone to grow up. Boring, self centered, immature people going nowhere slowly. Finished the book but I don't know why.
The reason I chose this rating is because this book seem to share real life experiences and causes you to truly think about the world around you and how/why people do some of the things they do and for what extreme. Some parts where extreme although so true in the real world. Closed-minded people should read this book.
Written in jazzy yet poignant Jack Kerouac style, this memoir takes Lauren from a curious girl trying to break free of the Church to a mature woman who understands the world through experience.
Lauren is intent on exploring life with her whole being. She's both intellectual and fiercely sexual, and she stumbles upon a group of friends/lovers who help her through the coming of age process while at the same time they're unable to fulfil her most innate need to be loved.
This book really struck a chord with me because I feel that I've been faced with the same dilemma as Lauren and many other women today. While we live in a time of great sexual freedom and as women we're enjoying our right to explore our sexuality, at the same time we feel a need to be loved and treasured for our uniqueness and to find a bond with that one person who will truly appreciate us. These are the two warring tendencies that are at play in this memoir.
While there were a few dangling modifiers, overall, it is well-written, with some nice turns of phrase.
After describing in detail some of the waiters and other staff she worked with, she adds "and the kitchen guys were just perverted."
Another one of my favorites was "All these beautiful women appear to have empty heads, playing a submissive or dominant role. It's so fake. I want to see interesting women. Interesting is erotic."
Lauren finds out what it means to cast aside all roles and simply be herself. She's definitely an interesting woman!
